Teacher Leaders in K-5 Math – Join this ongoing coaching course for the 2024-2025 school year.
Most teachers memorized math facts and algorithms when they were students in math class, but as teachers, they are now challenged to help their students develop a deep understanding of math concepts. Sue O’Connell and Math in Practice can help to unlock the full potential of K-5 math education with this transformative six-session course. Designed for teacher-leaders, school administrators, math coaches, and instructional specialists, these sessions offer coaching strategies to transform instructional practice and fostering deep mathematical understanding among students.
Empower teachers with enhanced math teaching techniques:
- Develop critical thinking: move beyond memorization to help students grasp complex math concepts.
- Problem solving skills: equip students with the tools to apply their knowledge to real-world scenarios.
- Diverse modeling methods: encourage varied representations of mathematical ideas.
- Effective communication: teaching students to articulate their mathematical reasoning clearly.
To align teaching practices with today’s standards, the sessions explore varied coaching roles and build coaching skills to assist K-5 teachers in rethinking the teaching of elementary mathematics and shifting their teaching practice to provide K-5 students with opportunities to develop deep mathematical understanding.
