Sue will be presenting a couple sessions at the NCTE/NCTM Joint Conference for Elementary Literacy and Mathematics in Chicago on June 16-18, 2025.
Sue’s sessions include:
Empowering Learners: Using Literature to Center Math Investigations and Elevate Student Voices
June 16 – 2:45 PM – 3:45 PM CDT
Hilton Chicago, Salon A-2
Explore how children’s literature can set the stage for interactive math investigations that put students at the center of their own learning. Gather ways to explore math skills and concepts by starting with a story context, followed by hands-on math explorations that encourage students to observe, analyze, and make sense of the math. Multiplication and division concepts will be highlighted.
The Power of Math Centers: Meeting the Needs of All Learners Through Math Play and Progressions
June 17 – 4:15 PM – 5:30 PM CDT
Hilton Chicago, Salon A-5
Join this hands-on session to discover how to use math play and learning progressions to design math centers that boost all students’ understanding of critical number concepts. Explore differentiated center tasks, that focus on the same math skill at varied levels of complexity, to build confidence, a positive math identity, and make learning fun, effective, and accessible for every student!
